Can I just say how amazing you all are? The amount of private messages and kind texts etc that I have had regarding my Sad News in my recent post has been amazing, thank you all for helping me to keep things private and not asking me all sorts of questions about it. Today I finally finished sorting out my stuff and settling back in at home with my mum, everything that needed to be done is now sorted and I can finally breathe a sigh of relief, PHEW. I can now try to move on with my life. As they say one door closes another door opens and all that jazz.
So, Thought I would do a bit of a different blog post this time, something more down the lines of why I originally started blogging, and probably one of my biggest passions in life, FASHION!
Now, as a plus size girl, I was always the one who went shopping with friends and window shopped. My favourite shop was always Topshop with River Island being close second, but if I bought anything from there it would be jewellery or hats (yes, Plus Size girls, don’t deny it, I see you secretly nodding.) Since I have lost…drumroll…16.5 Stone! I can now shop in all my favourite shops! Granted I can’t wear everything, but I can always go in and leave with a handful of bags if I wish YAY ME!
Work Fashion – How to be sophisticated, but still be fashionable and glamorous
Recently I have been applying for lots of jobs and found myself needing some really smart work clothes, but me being me I like to be special, and black trousers and a white shirt just wasn’t going to cut it for me. So I found myself thinking about how I could make Plus Size look glamorous in the work place, whilst still being just as fashionable as all the average sized women out there.
I believe that even as a curvier lady, you do not need to drape your body in baggy clothing that covers you up, the more you do that the bigger you will look! Sorry but it’s true, so I started with a classic Pencil Skirt. Yes it is tight and you will need a good pair of Bridget Jones panties (don’t deny that you don’t wear them, we all know you do!) The smallest part of my body is my waist, so I always try to emphasise this, therefore having beautiful printed blouses tucked into the skirt is the perfect way to do this. Adding either a leather jacket for a more edgy look or a long tailored trench coat is the perfect addition for a colder day (this coat was a steal from Isme, in a size 16 fits me perfectly and goes in and out in just the right places, flattering a woman’s curves.)
I am not very good with heels and wanted a heel that was high enough but comfortable to walk in, so as soon as I saw these babies from Topshop I knew they had to be mine, they are smart enough to wear to work, dressy enough to wear on a night and also casual enough to wear during the day – basically they are the amazing morphing shoes sent from heaven and I am in LOVE with them. Teamed with the frilly socks poking out of the top is a cute addition and right on trend. The blouse is £30 from Topshop and with the lace detail at the front adds a slightly sexy twist to an otherwise conservative blouse, make sure you wear a nice sexy bra underneath to add a bit of glamour to your workplace
Skirt – Isme
Blouse – Topshop
Coat – Isme
Socks – Topshop
Shoes – Topshop
Bra – Ann Summers
Necklace – Hermione’s Time Tuner (had to add that in there) A necklace with a pendant is a nice addition to go under the collar of a collared outfit so any one will do.
As soon as I saw this top I knew it had to be mine, making the outfit seem very 1960’s Mod, tucked into a pencil skirt with a leather jacket is edgy enough to be on trend but smart enough for work.
Shirt – New Look
Leather Jacket – Warehouse
Here are a few of my other favourite buys this week:
This dress, from River Island, is probably my favourite buy for a long time. It is really cute but you can dress it up to be sexier if you wish. I like wearing it with my Necklace poking through under the collar and with my frilly socks and ankle boots.
This dress is also from River Island and with the see through panel adds a sexy twist to the usual conservative lace. I haven’t yet worn this out but would wear it on a night out or to an event as it is too dressy for daytime (I think) Again a nice bra underneath is essential. I wore my hair up in a boho plait halo because I wanted to contrast the dressy-ness of the outfit and I think that with such beautiful lace detail it needs to be shown off and not have hair hanging down all over it!
So there we have it, Plus Size girls everywhere, you can still look beautiful, the reason I haven’t said the sizes of everything is because it really depends on the shop, what type of clothes it is and if it is elasticated, I can wear anything from a 14-18, it’s crazy!
